Bavaria Restaurant

Bavaria~ Bierfest Sublime – only two more opportunities this year to enjoy it ~

Looking forward to Bierfest every year is one of the things many visitors do. Here on St. Maarten, visitors also look forward to Bierfest but, as this happens once a month over a few months, visitors and residents have more than one opportunity to go to Bavaria restaurant in Simpson Bay to enjoy the convivial atmosphere and eat the yummy food brought to you directly from Bavaria.

It is wise to get to the restaurant early, say about 6:45pm, as parking is readily available right outside. The tables fill up pretty quickly after that. Tables outside are family-style where more than one party can sit down at the same time. Pretty waitresses will serve you drinks from the inside bar, but you can also head on over to both the inside and outside bar where there is a fun-loving barman right there to pour your beer. Indoors, there is a choice of ordering the regular menu or the BBQ; everything is served by the waitress.

Along one side of the garden is the BBQ; a table set with dishes filled with various types of sausages that are popular in Bavaria, Germany, as well as the pork shank that is to die for. These are heated up on the hot embers. The pretzels, made locally on island just for these occasions, are sublime, warm and tasty; this treat is perfect to start the meal off with a glass of foaming beer. Sides of cabbage, potato salad and sauerkraut are also on the menu.

Sausages include Bratwurst (three kinds) Bockwurst, Rindswurst and Weisswurst as well as the Schweinshaxe or pork shank. Music, tunes which most of us are familiar with but sung in German, is piped throughout the evening.

Wine and mixed drinks, as well as the popular beers on island, are all there, but it is the imported beers that make this evening unforgettable. Choose a few from the following list to try during your meal, as there are too many to try everyone in one night; next month you can return for a chance to try some more specially imported beers. These German beers are imported in bottles: Erdinger Hefe Hell (light, cloudy, wheat); Erdinger Hefe Dunkel (dark, wheat); Erdinger Kristal (clear wheat); Benedektiner (light, cloudy wheat); Paulaner Salvator (amber, strong); Paulaner Pils; Warsteiner Pils; Bitburger Pils; Becks and Draught Beer; Bavaria.

Plan to go to Bavaria on the first Friday of next month; and then the last Bierfest of the season will be on the first Friday of April.

Bavaria is located in Simpson Bay on Airport Road. Credit cards are not accepted.
